Thanks Sam Radford. I used to use the pomodoro technique, but I found I wasn’t getting enough done with it. I’d barely be started and I found myself having to stop and do something else for five minutes. Having said that, I still recommend it to my students. I’m considering using it again in the evenings when my energy levels start to sag; maybe I’ll get more use of it there.
But either way, I believe that — like so many other things in life — the best way to go about giving yourself enough rest is to do it deliberately. I think I’m still working that one out — certainly when it comes to planning in rest!
